About the Role
As our Senior Cybersecurity Engineer, you’ll help protect Wisr’s customers, data and platforms by strengthening our cyber controls, improving our security maturity, and ensuring we meet key obligations. This is a hands-on, technical role where you will be working on various programs including detection, incident response and vulnerability management.
You’ll be championing security and partnering with key teams, ensuring that security practices are implemented at every stage of the software development cycle and throughout the entire infrastructure. You will also be responsible for building internal capability, proactively identifying ways to improve processes, and acting as an escalation point for complex incidents.
This role is a critical part of the ICT, Cybersecurity and Platforms team, working closely with the broader Software Engineering teams across the business, building and fostering a culture of shared responsibility for security.
What you’ll do
• Own and continuously improve Wisr’s cybersecurity frameworks, policies and embedding security best practice across the business.
• Develop and maintain security standards and procedures, ensuring compliance and resilience across our platforms and cloud infrastructure.
• Proactively monitor the evolving cyber threat landscape, proactively identifying, assessing, and responding to new risks while leveraging opportunities for security innovation.
• Lead incident response and vulnerability management, driving prevention, detection, and containment activities using tools such as CrowdStrike, Netskope and Microsoft Defender.
• Partner and upscale IT, Platforms and Engineering teams to integrate security into system design, build and operations from the outset.
• Conduct detailed regular risk assessments and coordinate penetration testing, translating findings into practical, sustainable solutions that strengthen Wisr’s defences.
• Lead and deliver end to end security uplift programs, driving maturity improvements and readiness for ISO27001 certification.
• Provide expert technical security advice to senior stakeholders and act as the primary escalation point for complex incidents.
• Build security awareness across Wisr through training and capability development initiatives.
• Provide input and support regulatory compliance obligations, such as Consumer Data Right (CDR) requirements.
What success looks like in your first 6 months
You have built strong working relationships across engineering squads and operations teams, and are firmly established as the go-to Cybersecurity SME across the business. You have identified clear gaps in our security posture, with a proposed action plan to close gaps as aligned to best industry practices.
Some of the success measures include reduced manual intervention, faster deployment times, and enhanced vulnerability remediation rates.
Some of the key projects you will have delivered include:
• Embedded security controls across infrastructure and software development lifecycle, from design to deployment with a demonstrated deep understanding of Wisr’s core systems.
• Implemented automated security processes for building, testing, securing and deploying infrastructure and applications along with integrated automated security tooling in CI/CD pipelines.
• Embedded security-by-design principles into feature and sprint planning processes.
• Delivered security awareness training with measurable improvement in phishing test pass rates.
