Mō te tūranga | About the Role

The purpose of the Senior Cyber Security Engineer PAM role is to act as a senior technical leader working alongside Westpac’s Cyber Security Identity and Access Management team to complete assessments, identify security weaknesses, maintain and support the existing privileged access management platform, and configure and enhance its security capabilities.

This is a hands on senior engineering role that will play a key role in maturing the Bank’s PAM capability and leading engineering practices across the squad. You will also act as an advocate for Identity Security and PAM, engaging effectively with both technical and non technical stakeholders across the organisation.

Senior Engineers lead and provide technical direction in incident response, documentation and resolution of complex technical faults related to the Privileged Access Management platform.

Senior Cyber Security Engineers working within the Cyber Security Privileged Access Management Squad objectives are:

  • Manage privileged access across the environment covering each privileged access layer.

  • Clearly document and publish the definition of PAM for our consumers.

  • Understand risk and develop effective mitigation strategies.

  • Continuously onboard systems and platforms using APIs and web connectors, with an emphasis on expanding the control footprint.

  • Manage PAM across complex patterns such as DevOps, CI CD pipelines and machine identities.

  • Drive automation to increase efficiency, including interrogation tooling and auto onboarding.

  • Build and mature Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) through analytics and insights.

  • Ensure controls remain effective through continuous development and enhancement.

  • Provide ongoing reporting to stakeholders and consumers.

  • Conduct proactive research to analyse security weaknesses and recommend appropriate strategies.

  • Engage with vendors to gain key market insights.

Please note: This role requires participation in an on call roster on a four weekly basis.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • Proven experience as a senior enterprise grade PAM Engineer or Architect using a top tier PAM platform (CyberArk experience is ideal).

  • Demonstrated ability to act as a technical lead, mentoring engineers and bridging architecture and hands on engineering.

  • A calm and pragmatic approach in a fast paced and challenging environment.

  • Solid experience building PTA and Splunk dashboards, alerts and analytics.

  • Experience with automation tools, workflows and interrogation tooling.

  • Strong understanding and practical experience with Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR).

  • In depth understanding and experience working with on premise and cloud based Identity Governance and PAM.

  • Comfortable engaging with a wide range of technical and non technical stakeholders, acting as an evangelist for Identity Security and PAM.

  • Willingness and commitment to participate in an on call roster (four weekly).

  • A mindset for challenging the status quo and continuously improving the Bank’s security posture.

  • Security related certifications such as PAM certifications, CISM, CISSP or network security certifications.

  • Demonstrable knowledge and application of information security best practice standards and frameworks such as NIST, CIS and ISO 2700.

  • Experience supporting technical infrastructure in regulated industries such as financial institutions or government agencies.
