In 2008, three distinct communities - Caboolture Shire, Pine Rivers Shire, and the City of Redcliffe - came together through Queensland's local government reforms to form what would become Australia's third-largest local government area. Originally known as the Moreton Bay Region, this council was driven by a vision to create a unified approach to serving one of the fastest-developing regions in the country. The transformation into the City of Moreton Bay in 2023 marked a new chapter, reflecting the area's evolution from a collection of townships to a thriving city with its own distinct identity.
Today, the City of Moreton Bay employs a dedicated workforce of over 1,000 people who deliver more than 100 essential services to over 400,000 residents across 2,011 square kilometres. From rural townships to urban centres, coastal villages to business precincts, the council's work touches every aspect of community life. They maintain roads and transport infrastructure, manage parks and sporting facilities, provide rubbish collection, and operate community and cultural facilities. As the region continues its rapid growth trajectory toward a forecasted population of one million by 2050, the council remains committed to building something entirely new: a different kind of city, inspired and empowered by a different kind of council.
