Thurrock Council

Thurrock Council serves as the local authority for the borough of Thurrock, located on the north bank of the River Thames at the heart of the Thames Gateway in Essex, England. We're a unitary authority covering 165 square kilometres, home to approximately 176,000 residents across urban centres like Grays, Tilbury, and Purfleet-on-Thames, as well as rural villages in the north. Our borough boasts a unique blend of heritage and modern industry, with three international ports driving global trade and Lakeside standing as one of Europe's largest retail destinations. We're proud to be one of Thurrock's largest employers, with over 2,500 staff delivering essential services to our community.

Since September 2022, we've been working under government intervention to address financial challenges and improve our operations. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to serving our residents through children's and adult social care, education, housing, planning, and all the vital services that keep our borough running. With excellent transport links to London - just 35 minutes by train to the City - and a diverse, growing population, we're focused on building a sustainable future that benefits everyone who calls Thurrock home.
