Hi, I'm Jack, the owner of Cybersecurity Jobs List, and co-founder of Himalayas (himalayas.app) and Cavuno (cavuno.com). Across all my platforms, I work with application security daily: dependency vulnerability scanning, secure authentication, API security, and data protection across hundreds of thousands of users. My technical background is in computer science (UNSW), where he studied security engineering and computer networks, and worked as a research assistant on VR experiments that were published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology. I also work with cybersecurity hiring data every day, tracking which companies are posting, what certifications actually appear in listings, how salaries differ by sub-discipline and clearance level, and where the talent gaps are widest. That combination of security practice, engineering at scale, and daily immersion in the hiring data is what shapes the content on this site. I'm currently based in Sydney, Australia.

Graduate recruitment pages can use similar labels for very different jobs. One programme may ask for a specific degree and security clearance; another welcomes a predicted 2:2 and says a technology background is not required. Below is a source-checked snapshot of two currently open UK cybersecurity programmes for the 2027 intake, one recently closed 2027 scheme, and an Australian graduate listing whose employer page still labels it 2026. We checked the employer pages on 15 October 2026. Dates and vacancies can change, so reopen the employer link before you apply.
This is a selected shortlist, not a complete directory or a ranking. It focuses on the details that decide whether a role is practical for you: cohort year, location, degree criteria, work rights, clearance and closing date.
Cybersecurity graduate programmes to check now
| Employer and work | Location and schedule | Dates and pay shown | Eligibility to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Babcock Security Graduate Programme: information security for defence projects and weapon systems | Rosyth, Scotland; several days a week on site | Two years, starts September 2027. The employer now says applications are closed; its page lists 12 October 2026 as the closing date and invites candidates to register interest in a future opening. Starting salary at least £35,000. | Security-related degree. The employer says this post may only be occupied by a sole UK national and requires the ability to obtain and maintain BPSS and Security Check clearance. |
| HSBC Cyber - Graduate: placements across the bank's cyber function | Sheffield; at least three office days each week | Two years, starts 26 July 2027. Closes 1 November 2026, with rolling review and possible earlier closure. No salary shown on the vacancy page. | 2:1 degree classification or equivalent, available full time from July 2027, and UK work permission for the full programme and beyond without HSBC visa sponsorship. |
| Tesco Technology - Cyber Security: security platforms, incident response and cyber assurance | Welwyn Garden City, England. The page does not specify a weekly office pattern. | Two years, starts 6 September 2027. 2027 schemes are open and filled first come, first served. The page lists £40,000 and no fixed closing date for this scheme. | Predicted 2:2 degree. Tesco says a technology background is not required. Visa or immigration sponsorship is not offered. |
| Macquarie Technology Group Cloud Networking and Cyber Graduate Program: cloud and cyber work in a Cloud Security Operations Centre | Sydney, Australia; on site. Day shift 7am-4pm or evening shift 3pm-midnight. | The employer labels this a 2026 cohort and describes a two-year programme. An apply route was present on 15 October, but the page shows no closing date or start date. | Final-year student or recent graduate studying or holding an Engineering, IT, Computer Science or other technology-related degree; Australian citizen eligible to obtain government clearance. |
The open UK programmes here are HSBC and Tesco. Babcock’s 2027 Security Graduate Programme is now closed; its page lists 12 October 2026 as the closing date and invites candidates to register interest for a future opening. Keep it on a watchlist, not an active application list. The Macquarie Technology Group page is a separate Australian example, and its title says 2026. Because that employer page does not give a start or close date, confirm the cohort timing and application status before relying on it for a 2027 start.
HSBC reviews applications as they arrive and may close the vacancy before its stated 1 November date. Tesco says its 2027 schemes are filled first come, first served. Check both employer pages again before applying; a published date or an open route does not promise it will remain available.
What these cyber graduate programmes involve
The titles do not all point to the same kind of security work. Babcock describes assessing risks in complex defence systems and supporting security documentation through engineering and manufacturing. Its programme is site-based in Rosyth, and its nationality and clearance conditions are specific to that post.
HSBC's graduate role sits in a large bank's cyber function. The employer says placements may touch areas such as vulnerability management, offensive security, cryptography or data security. The vacancy asks for a 2:1 or equivalent but does not name a required degree subject. It does require regular attendance at its Sheffield office and UK work permission without sponsorship.
Tesco's Technology - Cyber Security scheme is framed around protecting the retailer's systems, services and data. Its page mentions incident response, security platforms, cyber assurance and time in technology labs. It says a technology background is not required, but the location is Welwyn Garden City and sponsorship is unavailable.
Macquarie Technology Group's Australian listing is more specific about its operational setting and hours: cloud security operations, on-site work in Sydney, and either a day or evening shift. That schedule is worth checking against study, caring responsibilities and travel before applying. It is also a reminder to keep the cohort year attached to the job: the live page is labelled 2026, not 2027.
Check fit before you apply
Graduate programme, graduate scheme and graduate job are not always used consistently. A scheme usually signals a structured cohort or development programme; a graduate job may simply be an entry-level vacancy. The distinction in this general guide to graduate schemes is useful, but the employer's own page is the authority for the role you're considering.
Read each posting for these details before tailoring your application:
- Intake and start date: Is this the 2027 cohort you expect to join, or a 2026 listing with no visible start date?
- Degree subject and result: Does the employer name a subject, a grade, both, or neither? Babcock names related subjects; HSBC specifies a 2:1 or equivalent; Tesco lists a predicted 2:2.
- Location and attendance: Can you commute or relocate? Do not read “hybrid” or a city label as permission to work from anywhere.
- Work rights and sponsorship: HSBC and Tesco explicitly state UK sponsorship limits. Ask the employer if your status does not match the wording.
- Nationality and clearance: Some posts have role-specific conditions. Babcock states a sole-UK-national requirement for this security post. Do not assume that rule applies to other roles at the same employer.
- Hours and work pattern: Macquarie's posting gives day and evening shifts. Confirm which option is available and whether it fits your circumstances.
- Closing date: Record the date you checked it. “No deadline shown” and “open indefinitely” are not the same thing.
Show evidence instead of just interest
A project or class assignment can give you something concrete to discuss, even if you have not held a cybersecurity job. Describe what you personally did, what you observed, and what you could not yet conclude. Do not present a lab as production experience or claim an incident was contained if you only analyzed a sample.
For example, imagine a final-year student reviewing sign-in events in a small test environment. They could explain which events they compared, what pattern they noticed, what benign explanation they considered, and what additional data they would request before escalating. That is a fictional illustration, not a hiring example or a required exercise. Keep the scope honest and never include employer logs or confidential material in a public portfolio.
For each application, make a small evidence map: copy one essential requirement from the advert, name a real example that demonstrates it, and note any gap you still need to address. Our cybersecurity resume examples show how to separate work experience, study and projects. The cybersecurity interview preparation guide can help you rehearse a clear explanation without overstating your role.
Where to keep looking
Use the CSJL graduate cybersecurity jobs collection as a starting point, then check each employer page. When we checked the collection on 15 October, it included internship records as well as graduate programmes. A matching search label is not proof that a vacancy is a graduate scheme.
If you are in Australia, the Australian Signals Directorate entry-level programmes page says its 2027 applications are closed and 2028 applications will open in early 2027. It requires Australian citizenship and says previous work experience is not required. That is a future-intake watchlist, not an open role today.
Apprenticeships are a separate route from graduate programmes. If you are still comparing training while you work, see our guide to cybersecurity apprenticeships in the US, UK and Australia.
Questions about cybersecurity graduate programmes
Do I need a cybersecurity degree?
There is no single rule across these examples. Babcock asks for a security-related degree, while the HSBC page specifies a grade but no subject. Tesco says a technology background is not required and lists a predicted 2:2. Read the current vacancy criteria rather than relying on a general rule.
Do all defence cybersecurity graduate jobs have the same clearance rules?
No. The Babcock 2027 Security Graduate Programme page names a sole-UK-national condition and BPSS/SC clearance, even though applications are now closed. That is a condition on this programme, not evidence about every defence employer or every Babcock vacancy. Read the exact role you plan to apply for.
Is the Macquarie Technology Group programme a 2027 intake?
The listing we checked is titled “2026 Cloud Networking and Cyber Graduate Program.” Its page does not show a start date or closing date, so confirm the cohort timing and application status with the employer before relying on it for a 2027 start.
Choose two roles that fit your location and eligibility, save their current employer links, and write one honest example for each essential requirement. That will give you a more useful shortlist than applying to every result with “graduate” in its title.
