Platte River Power Authority

Platte River Power Authority exists to solve one of the most critical challenges of our time: how to provide safe, reliable, and financially sustainable energy while protecting our environment for future generations. Since 1973, this not-for-profit, community-owned utility has served the Colorado communities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland, delivering wholesale electric generation and transmission services that power over 350,000 residents. Today, Platte River is leading an ambitious transformation toward a noncarbon energy future, demonstrating that public power can successfully transition from traditional fossil fuel resources to clean energy while maintaining system reliability and affordability. With a generation portfolio spanning coal, wind, hydro, solar, and natural gas, Platte River is strategically diversifying its resources and investing in innovative technologies like the Rawhide Energy Station to create a more sustainable energy system that serves as a model for community-owned utilities nationwide.
