WorkCover Queensland was established on 1 February 1997 following a major review of Queensland's workers' compensation scheme. For more than 25 years, this self-funded government statutory body has been the exclusive provider of accident insurance for work-related injuries in Queensland, serving over 170,000 businesses across the state. The organisation operates under the WorkSafe.qld.gov.au framework, which encompasses Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, the Electrical Safety Office, and Workers' Compensation Services.
Today, WorkCover Queensland continues its vital mission of supporting Queenslanders through recovery and returning to work after work-related injuries or illnesses. With revenues between $1B and $10B and a team of approximately 1,100 employees, the organisation provides comprehensive workers' compensation insurance, covering medical and rehabilitation costs, lost wages, travel expenses, and permanent impairment payments. As they enter a new chapter guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping their 2030 Strategy, WorkCover Queensland is embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen their impact and continue making a positive difference in people's lives.
