The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Cybersecurity in ITS, the Cybersecurity Analyst I will be responsible for day to day operational activities conducting vulnerability assessments, managing the Security Incident and Event Management system, responding to security incidents and helping deliver cybersecurity best practices and awareness.

The Cybersecurity Analyst works closely with ITS departments, business partners, and SAIT clients to help identify risks, drive remediation and bring awareness to ever changing cybersecurity threats that could impact SAIT

The Role

    •    Review and address alerts and detections from the Security Incident and Event Management System
    •    Triage and remediate tickets and cases relating to Cybersecurity operational activities
    •    Assist the Cybersecurity Manager to oversee and coordinate the evaluation, design, implementation and maintenance of safeguards to protect the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of critical information maintained or transmitted electronically
    •    Remain informed on current and emerging trends, threats, issues within the security industry and provide counsel and education to the institution as appropriate
    •    Participate in the cybersecurity incident response team, assisting with the management and resolution of security incidents
    •    Design, perform, and/or oversee testing, including vulnerability testing, of all information security systems to identify vulnerabilities with a view towards establishing and maintaining a security baseline
    •    Document and assign tickets to other ITS teams or application owners to communicate vulnerabilities and follow up on remediation activities
    •    Assistance with the identification, capture and remediation of organizational and third-party risks as part of the Governance, Risk and Compliance capability within Cybersecurity
    •    This position entails adherence to both specific institutional technical guidelines and IT industry standards (e.g. NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO27001, ITIL 4, etc.)
    •    Development activities align with SAIT’s recommended best practices and published organizational policies
    •    Must be an excellent communicator, both oral and written, with the ability to relate IT security issues to technical and non-technical staff, contractors and students

Qualifications & Experience

    Minimum
  • Must be a current SAIT student enrolled in and returning to a program in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a IT related field
  • 1 – 2 years of cybersecurity experience in an enterprise environment
  • Preferred
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or technical track
  • Cybersecurity or IAM certifications are beneficial (ie. CISSP, CEH, Security+, GIAC, etc.)
  • Cybersecurity certifications, ITIL 4
  • 1-3 years of experience in higher education IT
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices
  • A proactive learner with a keen interest in staying updated with the latest cybersecurity trends and best practices
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective and clear communication (both verbal and written) and collaboration skills
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to security and compliance
