Qatalum is a 50/50 QatarEnergy–Norsk Hydro joint venture operating an aluminium smelter and casthouse in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar, producing extrusion ingots, foundry alloys, and standard ingots.
Qatalum runs a primary aluminium smelter in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar - a continuous-process industrial operation where electrolytic reduction, casting, and energy management run as one coupled system. Formed in 2006 as a 50/50 joint venture between QatarEnergy and Norsk Hydro, with commercial aluminium production starting in 2009, it is described as one of the world's most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient smelters. For security work, that framing matters: this is heavy industrial infrastructure, and the processes being defended are physical, hot, and expensive to interrupt.
The technical footprint is specific rather than generic. Qatalum works in aluminium smelting using Hydro's electrolytic reduction cell technology, casthouse operations, energy efficiency and emissions reduction, and homogenization of extrusion ingots. The product line out of the casthouse covers homogenized extrusion ingots for extruders and downstream customers, primary foundry alloys, and standard ingots, feeding the infrastructure, automotive, industrial, and electrical verticals. Hydro Aluminium brings more than a century of aluminium technology and production experience; QatarEnergy contributes its energy position.
