In 1997, North Wind was founded by Sylvia Medina with a vision to create a company dedicated to environmental stewardship and engineering excellence. What began as a small operation in Idaho Falls, Idaho has grown into one of the nation's leading small businesses, now employing more than 1,400 professionals across 30+ offices spanning the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam. The company's evolution reflects a commitment to solving complex challenges in environmental remediation, engineering, construction, and mission support services for federal and state agencies as well as private industry clients nationwide.
In 2010, North Wind became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation, which brought additional resources and strengthened its mission to preserve, strengthen, and enhance the welfare of Alaska Native shareholders and descendants. Today, North Wind operates through a family of companies including specialized subsidiaries like LBYD Engineers, North Wind Portage, North Wind Remediation, and Silver Mountain Construction, each bringing deep expertise to their respective domains. Guided by core values of People First, Client Advocacy, Collaboration, and Stewardship, the company delivers innovative solutions while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and sustainable outcomes that enrich both employees and the communities they serve.
