As a Cyber Security and GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with the Information Security team at Independent Bank. You will support cybersecurity and information security governance efforts while developing foundational skills in security monitoring, risk management, compliance, documentation, and security controls. You will work alongside experienced team members and gain exposure to how cybersecurity practices help protect the Bank's information and systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist with reviewing security alerts, vulnerability findings, and ticket queues, and route issues to the appropriate team member.
  • Help maintain security procedures, inventories, evidence, and knowledge resources under the guidance of the Information Security team.
  • Support responses to audit requests, technical questionnaires, and internal security questions by gathering approved information.
  • Assist with basic access, configuration, and security control checks using documented procedures and approved tools.
  • Participate in security awareness, incident response, risk assessment, and compliance activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Information Security, IT, Risk Management, and other business areas to support the protection of sensitive information.
  • Protect confidential information, maintain accurate documentation, and promptly escalate suspected security incidents or policy concerns.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Curiosity and sound judgment, with a willingness to ask questions and seek guidance when needed.
  • Foundational understanding of operating systems, networks, cybersecurity concepts, and office productivity tools.
  • Relevant industry certifications, coursework, labs, or projects would be a plus.
  • Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated in a relevant field of study such as Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Risk Management, Information Security, or a related field.
