Nonprofit, member-owned Connecticut credit union founded in 1940, serving over 70,000 members with $1B+ in assets across banking, lending, mortgages, cards, and digital banking.
Connex Credit Union is a nonprofit, member-owned financial cooperative chartered in 1940, now one of Connecticut's largest credit unions, with more than $1 billion in assets and more than 70,000 members across four counties - New Haven, Hartford, Middlesex, and Fairfield - served from eight branches. For a security team, that footprint translates into a familiar and non-trivial threat model: a regulated depository holding member financial data, running digital banking channels, and processing activity across checking and savings accounts, credit cards, consumer and home-equity lending, mortgages, IRAs, investments, and insurance products.
The attack surface is broad by design. Online and digital banking services extend the perimeter past the branch network; lending and mortgage workflows pull in sensitive identity, income, and property data; card and account services carry fraud and account-takeover exposure; and the investment and insurance lines add third-party and partner relationships to the mix. The institution is accountable to its members rather than outside investors - each member holds a share and helps guide direction - which shapes both the regulatory posture and the cost of getting it wrong.
ConnexCares, the credit union's community program, funds grants, scholarships, financial-literacy initiatives, partnerships, and volunteer work across the region the institution serves. The stated mission is members' financial well-being and reinvestment in those same Connecticut communities - a mandate that sits alongside, not separate from, protecting the systems those members bank through.
