In 1989, when the water industry was privatized in England, the founders of what would become Anglian Water recognized a unique responsibility: as stewards of one of the country's most precious resources, they had an opportunity to redefine what a water company could be. Operating in the East of England - the driest region in the country with a growing population and facing the dual threats of climate change flooding and drought - they realized this wasn't just about supplying clean water and recycling wastewater. It was about creating environmental and social prosperity for an entire region.
From that insight emerged Anglian Water's purpose: to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region through their commitment to "Love Every Drop." Over three decades, they've evolved from a traditional utility into a purpose-driven organization, becoming the first water company to enshrine public interest into their company constitution through enhanced Articles of Association in 2019. Today, serving nearly seven million customers across the largest geographic area in England and Wales, they balance the six capitals - natural, social, financial, manufactured, people, and intellectual - to make decisions that benefit not just shareholders, but customers, communities, and the environment for generations to come.
